When it comes to transporting Dangerous Goods (DG)—especially military-grade components like shells—logistics precision and compliance aren’t just critical; they’re mandatory. SARR team recently undertook a high-priority assignment: the secure, compliant, and time-sensitive road transport of 7 containers packed with 155 MM ERFBBT shells (in 135 pallets) from Dighi, Imagine Pune to the Sahar Cargo Terminal, Mumbai Airport.

Project Snapshot

  • Cargo Description: 155 MM ERFBBT Shells

  • Quantity: 07 Containers (135 Pallets)

  • Nature of Cargo: Dangerous Goods (DG)

  • Mode of Transportation: Road

  • Route: Dighi Imagine, Pune → Sahar Cargo Terminal, Mumbai Airport

Execution Strategy

DG-Compliant Handling and Packaging : Each pallet of shells was securely packed in compliance with UN DG transport regulations and ICAO/IATA DG standards, ensuring full compatibility with both road and air segments of the logistics chain.

Route Planning & Regulatory Approvals : Given the DG classification of the cargo, the movement required special permissions, route clearances, and police escort coordination to ensure security and prevent delays. Every step, from dispatch to final terminal handover, was monitored in real time.

Specialized Fleet & Trained Personnel : Only DG-certified transport vehicles with GPS tracking were deployed for the move. Additionally, all personnel involved were trained and certified in hazardous cargo handling, minimizing risk during loading, transit, and delivery.

Air Export Alignment : To meet the tight export window for the Armenia shipment, precise coordination with Mumbai’s Sahar Air Cargo Terminal was ensured for immediate processing upon arrival—avoiding detention and ensuring regulatory compliance for export loading.

Challenges Tackled

  • Compliance with DG Road Transport Norms: Adherence to Indian Motor Vehicle Act and international DG road transport protocols.

  • Security & Risk Mitigation: Escort coordination and 24/7 tracking for enhanced safety due to sensitive nature of the cargo.

  • Air Terminal Coordination: Real-time handover scheduling at the air cargo complex to prevent any delay in export clearance.
